i hestitated

In writing about my reaction to Tuesday's election results, I was a little dishonest with all of you. Out of fear of offending or alienating family and friends who I know do not share all of my social values, I refrained from mentioning that California sort of broke my heart on election day. The passing of Proposition 8 in CA, as well as Arkansas' passing of a ban effectively prohibiting gay people from adopting children (this makes no sense to me at all, as we live in a country where millions of children are in need of loving homes), has definitely tempered the joy I feel overall about the election results.
Ultimately, I've decided to mention this because I know that the people I love and I are able to agree to disagree, and that it is most important to be genuine and open to respectful discourse about the issues that matter.
