Finally! An update on our weekend trip to Kansas at the beginning of June. We went to visit our friends, Mike and Sara, who live in Topeka. It was so fun catching up with them. I went to high school with Mike, and we also used to live across the street from each other. We've known each other since we were goofy teenagers, and it was great hanging out as grown ups (we're both married - weird!).
Despite (or because of, if you ask Kevin) the copious amounts of Kansas City barbecue consumed in just 2.5 days, it was a great trip and I'm so glad we decided to do it. Kev and I love road trips and it felt so good to be out on the open road together, listening to Queen, Johnny Cash, and Journey and cracking each other up. On the way out there we made a spontaneous stop in Madison County, Iowa to see their famous covered bridges, and to see the birthplace of John Wayne. I love roadside kitsch!
We also got to see a Royal's game in Kansas, see the cute little college town of Lawrence, meet some of Mike and Sara's great friends, and eat at a dinosaur-themed restaurant (Kevin knows I'm a sucker for dinos). GREAT weekend. Thanks, Mike and Sara!
