long weekend

Long weekends with perfect weather - high 70's and sunny - call for plenty of walks around the lakes, long naps in sunny bedrooms, gorgeous drives to historic towns, hunting down some lovely vintage finds, hikes up beautiful bluffs, plenty of outdoor dining, bbqs with good friends, lots of goofing around with your favorite person, and a couple of blockbustery action movies. Fun!

Wednesday: Impromptu date night consisting of walking the 1.5 miles to Uptown, dinner of fish tacos at Tin Fish (where we ran into friends we hadn't seen in a long time), and walking back home to watch some bad t.v. - nice!

Thursday: Ran around all over town, to three different locations, to pick up the following: a cool faux-bamboo end table, a set of 8 Chippendale-style chairs, and one beautiful dining room table - all purchased through Craigslist. More on these goodies, and our plans for them, later. Dinner at Taco Bell (our one fast-food weakness), and more bad t.v. at home.

Friday: I met my friend, Clare (whose company has a "half-day Fridays" policy during the summer), for lunch at a great bistro in Uptown, and then a 3 mile walk around Lake Calhoun. Met Kevin back at home, where he took a nice long nap while I tried on the adorable bridesmaid's outfit for my sister's wedding. Dinner at home, and then out to watch the new Terminator movie (surprisingly entertaining).

Saturday: Chores at home, runs for both of us (8 miles for Kev, 4 for me), and then a delicious bbq at the home of our friends, Sarah and Dave. Back home for a good night's sleep.

Sunday: French toast with fresh berries and agave syrup for breakfast (yum!), folded some clean laundry, packed our cooler with a picnic lunch, and then headed out the door for the 50 minute drive to the town of Red Wing. Lunch at a park, a gorgeous hike up the north side of Barn Bluff, exploration of a cool pottery store (Red Wing is famous for their pottery, their historic homes, and their famous work boots), and then digging through the goodies at a couple of antiques shops (where I scored a cool silver pitcher). Back to Minneapolis in time for another dinner at Tin Fish (we love that place), and then home to watch a Netflix video ("I've Loved You So Long" - very good).

Monday: Lazy morning for me, productive morning for Kev (an 18-mile run), lunch with friends at a cool new burger place (man, we ate out a lot this weekend!), and then off to the Lagoon Theater to see the new Stark Trek movie (awesome). 7.5-mile run for me (and bike ride for Kevin) around Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles, and then relaxing at home.

A good weekend, and a much-needed bout of rest and relaxation before all the craziness of moving ensues this weekend (we close on the house Friday!). Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend as well.

PS - what is sad is that those glasses are probably the same prescription as my real ones.

  3. Um, yes, I was hoping you would not notice that. Okay, it's just that I love it SO much that I wanted to wear it right away, but then I realized that I want it to look really cute for your wedding, so I took it off right after we got in the car (I promise). No more wearing it, at least not until October 18th! :)
