4th of july

One of my favorite holidays. An especially good one this year because I got to spend it with my family (although, of course I missed my husband). We had a little 4th of July party here at my sister's house in Texas, complete with Mexican food and a pinata. I know, very authentic. It was great to see my aunt, uncle, and cousins and to meet Alex's mom, Rosie (who is awesome), and Mel and Alex's hilarious friend, Cesar. Good food and good people - what more could one desire on a summer day?

My sisters and I spent the day before the party buying decorations, creating a cool canopy for the backyard out of sheets, and making traditional Mexican tissue-paper flowers in red white and blue paper. The day of the party we ate delicious food, played a hilarious round of charades with the whole family, watched some spectacular fireworks with the Houston city skyline as a backdrop, and ended the night with a dance party. Good day.

The product of our craftiness.

California, the wonder-dog.

Fajitas, mole enchiladas, chips and salsa, and queso - yum!

Our beautiful backyard canopy. Too bad it rained half the day!
